2025-2026 Staples Wreckers Varsity Girls Basketball

The Wreckers had a week to remember. On Wednesday the girls defeated Trumbull 49-43, handing the state ranked #6 Eagles their first loss of the season on their home court. The next night, the road warriors came back from down 6 in the final 20 seconds thanks to a pair of desperation 3 pointers by senior Freya Harvey, then pulled away in OT to win 55-47. Senior Night! We celebrated the great careers of seniors Freya Harvey, Marley Belzer, Sadie Katzner, and Emma Asiel on Friday with an award ceremony before the game. These 4 girls have collectively played in more varsity games than any senior class in recent history. The team responded with an 82-21 win over Central, with Freya Harvey 24 points (career high) and Marley Belzer 18 points (career high) leading the way! Sadie Katzner scored 7 first quarter points and Emma Asiel knocked down her 23rd 3 pointer of the season.

Staples picked up 2 more wins this week, defeating Torrington and Warde by 30 points each, after their first loss of the season last week vs State #4 Greenwich.
Previously, Staples kept it rolling with a 67-32 win over Darien on Tuesday, this after they knocked off state #7 ranked, and previously undefeated Stamford, 58-39 to improve to 8-0 on the season in front of a packed home gym last Friday. With the win, Staples moved into the #6 position in the state Top 10 Poll Monday!

On MLK Day, Staples Girls Basketball hosted a clinic to Westport youth players. We had over 100 campers, players and coaches at the clinic. Go WRECKERS!!!
