Staples girls basketball 4-1 after beating Danbury – Westport News

A slow start cost the Staples girls basketball team dearly in its lone loss of the early season — a 40-30 decision to Bethel that included the Wreckers falling into an early 13-0 hole. Staples flipped the script on Friday against Danbury and led wire-to-wire in a 36-23 win to help the Wreckers improve to 4-1 on the season. A 12-0 run to start the game was all the offense the Wreckers would need, as each defense fought with one another for quality shots. “Since the Bethel game we’ve worked on rebounding and defense, and we realized because we’re so small and fast all five girls have to rebound and we have to play more as a team,” Staples coach Paco Fabian said. The Wreckers led 30-11 after three quarters before the teams traded foul shots in the final eight minutes to close out the contest.
